Vik Thapar

Managing Director, Cypress Growth Capital, LLC

Vik Thapar has more than 25 years of experience across venture capital, private equity, and information technology consulting. As a Managing Director at Cypress Growth Capital, he leads all aspects of the firm’s investment process, from sourcing and evaluating opportunities to supporting portfolio companies as they scale and achieve strategic growth objectives.

Before joining Cypress Growth Capital in 2012, Vik spent three years with the Texas Emerging Technology Fund (TETF), a $200 million state-sponsored venture capital fund focused on fostering innovation and commercialization across Texas. Earlier in his career, he spent a decade in information technology consulting, advising Fortune 500 companies on business and technology initiatives.

Vik is actively involved in supporting entrepreneurship and economic development throughout North Texas. He serves on the Board of Directors of the U.S.–India Chamber of Commerce and, in 2019, co-founded Venture Dallas, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the Dallas–Fort Worth innovation ecosystem. He served as one of the organization’s original board members and continues to support its mission of connecting entrepreneurs, investors, and corporate leaders.

A frequent speaker on entrepreneurship, venture capital, and innovation, Vik has served as a guest lecturer and panelist at Southern Methodist University (SMU), Texas Christian University (TCU), and The University of Texas at Dallas.

Vik earned an MBA from Southern Methodist University, concentrating in Entrepreneurial Studies and Strategy, and a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Texas at Dallas.

His contributions to the investment and business communities have been recognized through numerous honors, including the Dallas Business Journal 40 Under 40 Award, the Dallas Business Journal Minority Business Leader Award, D CEO’s 2019 Mergers & Acquisitions Capital Provider of the Year, inclusion in the D CEO Dallas 500, and the SMU Cox School of Business Alumni Award.
